What Happens When a Software Voucher Term Ends: Renewal and Downgrade

What vendors usually do at the end of a one-year coupon or upgrade link, how to avoid surprise charges, and what happens to your files.

A voucher pays for a fixed term on the vendor's plan. What happens after depends on the vendor and on whether a card is on the account.

The two usual outcomes

  • Renewal: if a card is on file and auto-renew is on, the vendor charges its normal price for the next term
  • Downgrade: with no card or renewal off, the account drops to the free row

PerkShelf does not renew anything. We do not hold a card or a subscription.

Find your end date

Open the vendor's billing or subscription page right after redeeming and note the end date. Most show it next to the plan name.

Stop renewal

Turn off auto-renew or remove the card in vendor billing. Some vendors only let you do that once the plan is active, so check a day after redeeming.

Your data after a downgrade

Most tools keep your files and projects on the free row but limit features, storage or usage. Export anything you need before the end date if the free limits are small.

Extending

To keep the plan without paying the vendor's renewal price, buy a fresh voucher when one is in stock. Some vendors only accept a new coupon after the current term ends, so ask support before buying if you are mid-term.

Frequently asked questions

Will PerkShelf charge me again after a year?

No. PerkShelf never charges automatically. Any renewal is the vendor's, on a card you added there.

Can I stack two one-year coupons?

Usually not on the same account at the same time. Redeem the second after the first term ends.
